Diffuser flow

In the field of diffuser flows we are investigating decelerated flows, as they appear for instance at the turbine outlet. Diffusers play an important role, as they make a sufficient contribution to increasing the overall efficieny of a plant on the one hand and represent the boundary condition for the last turbine stage and thus influencing their operation on the other hand.

Diffuser flows are very complex and characterised by vortices, separations of the flow and strong gradients. Accurate and reliable numerical results can only be achieved by highly sophisticated simulations, which are validated on test data from purpose-built test rigs.
