Steam turbines and wet steam

In the field of steam turbines and wet steam we are working on flows in steam turbines, starting from high pressure and single-phase-conditions spanning to two-phase-flows and pressures of a few Millibars at the cold end.

The spontaneous condensation of subcooled steam leads to wet steam flow within the steam turbine. This process causes additional losses and eventually harmful effects due to the deposition of droplets and subsequent erosion. The ITSM has the necessary numerical tools, relevant test rigs and in-house developed measurement technology in order to conduct research in the field of wet steam flows and to obtain valuable findings on the design of steam turbines.
